Cellos / Living within ur means 11/4/2020

April 11 2020 -

About day 20 of corona virus Lock-down,

Sam and I did gardening chores, sat in the hot sun round the back and observed the curfew.

Went for a stroll in the gorgeous weather as we are permitted to during curfew, in Betty Eastwood Park opposite our home, a former mining village we live in - Crigglestone - has an ornamental colliery wheel outside the gates.

I couldn't help think what kind of world will be left after this has blown through, It appears that the vile consumer lead society and economy has been put in stasis. I also wonder (and hope) that people may think, "You know what I can live on less, and dont have to spend money I cant afford on crap that I dont need" - if so good! People will be a lot happier, I fear however people will slink back to our "buy now pay later (or never) modus operandi, driven by the dark corporate market forces that have robbed us humans of our humanity

Many people often ask me how I managed to retire at 55, well I worked really hard, all over the world in IT, and saved my money carefully. Ive never lived beyond my means, in fact very significantly inside them, and apart from my house in holmfirth bought 21 years ago (sold 18 month ago) - I've never had one penny of credit or debt since, and wont again. I bore anyone who listens, that this is the key to happiness, and am truly heartbroken when I see how easy it is to get over your head in debt and to borrow money you can never hope to repay, and I've witnessed friends and family suffer awfully from the stress of debt... This capitalist debt trap we've built makes unhappy unfulfilled wage slaves, this world crisis we are now in has brought this alarmingly into focus for many, who have never had one penny saved for a rainy day, (But two cars on the drive), well the rain has arrived, in fact its pouring.

I played the cello as usual this afternoon after we came in from the sun, there's some more recording in the offing which I will share of course, useful for putting on when you need lingering guests to leave.

As I became a vegetarian following my heart attacks 5 months ago, I also noted today that I haven't lost much wt, a few pounds only but cholesterol has improved dramatically.

Continued the excellent The Twelve by Justin Cronin and ordered "The accidental Time machine '
by Joe Hadelman.
